Following Your Heart

I first met with Catherine Hull at Starbucks in February 2018. She had read on my website MiyagiSchool.com that I was looking to start meditation retreats. Having successfully created them herself she decided to send me an email to meet up.

The second I met Catherine I felt instantly comfortable like someone I've known for a long time. Her energy was uplifting and light. I'll always remember the first thing she said to me when she sat down.

She said "On my way here I kept thinking something really big is going to happen with us. I feel like we're going to put on a massive meditation event or something."

I didn't think much of it at the time but we had a great conversation and parted ways. 

A few weeks later I asked her to go on a hike together where I got to know more about this amazing hummingbird named Catherine. She then met with my wife Chelsea who helped me build Free Form Fitness into a successful chain of personal training studios.  And after a good discussion, it was a done deal.

Since meditation is still in its infancy we were brainstorming on ways we could help bring awareness to meditation in Ottawa. The idea came to mind that we should launch meditation on Parliament Hill every Monday and get the best healers and teachers in the city to show them what meditation is all about. It would require renting equipment and volunteering our time every week of the summer but figured it was worth it.

The next week Catherine received the permit from the Parliament and Happiness on the Hill was born. Within 2 weeks we had over 4000 people who had clicked interested on Facebook without any advertising. We had 200+ people show up the first day.

While Catherine was standing in front of the crowd about to talk into the mic. I whispered to her "it looks like this is the event you were talking about when we first met."

She smiled and went on with her guided meditation.
